The pitfall of the go-getter....

The pitfall of the go-getter

Life can be pretty hard, very unkind even, and yet you want to move forward... You know it won't be easy, but you know what you're doing it for and that you'll be better for it in the end. You have a goal in mind, you want to plant your flag somewhere and you put all your energy into making the plan succeed.

Into the forest

The problem is that sometimes we keep going, even when our own path has long since taken a turn. But we persevere, because we are not quitters, because they need us, because no one else is doing it, because we don't see any other way, because it's the right thing to do, because it's our responsibility, because we want to finish things... And so we end up in a forest where we can't see the trees anymore. You don't get charged up anymore, you have the feeling of an eternal struggle, that you don't get appreciation, that it doesn't pay off, that you are alone, that you are not seen. Yet you dream of something else, where things run smoothly and where it is good to be, where life smiles at you!
Since childhood we have been taught not to give up, not to complain and above all not to do our best. Often to our own detriment. Because what we have learned much less or perhaps even unlearned is to listen to our inner compass. Which knows very well where to go and which instinctively shows us the way. Unfortunately our ego, I call him our inner saboteur, puts a stick in the wheels by immediately throwing up all possible disaster scenarios, so that you more often than not do not follow your inner compass.

Is this your flag?

Unless your dream is to help other people achieve their dreams, perhaps it is time to think carefully about the right reason why you are trying so hard, trying so hard to hold on to what is and persevere. It is not always to persevere during a difficult period. Sometimes you also have to be able to admit that it's just not working (for you) and take a different path.
Therefore, once in a while, stop and think about what you really care about in your life, in your work, in your relationship. Are these things coming up sufficiently today? What gives you energy? What do you dream about? And then ask yourself if it's still worth it? Isn't it time to go for your own dream, instead of chasing someone else's dream?

Read the signs!

'Yes, but I have no choice' I often hear people say. You always have a choice! It's just that the other options are not so obvious and you already have to get creative to achieve your goal or dream. And sometimes the solution is in a small corner. A tip someone gave you, a good
(conversation) partner, a flyer you received, a nice article you read, a helping hand... The question is whether you have the courage to take it and go your own way, because our inner saboteur is always lurking, ready to sow doubt and fear.

Blood, sweat and tears

Perseverance, of course, is not always a bad thing. Once you know where your path leads, what you want to accomplish, no matter how small or big your dream, sometimes you have to fight to get somewhere. And then you know it will be worth the blood, sweat and tears. And that you really will be better for it. But keep your finger on the pulse and keep an eye on your inner compass. That way you will know when to make adjustments and plant your victory flag in the right place.
Life is too short to have to. Therefore, this good advice: Make something of it yourself, with your own talents, your own dreams! Do you have a dream you would like to fulfill, but don't know how? Or would you like to change jobs, but don't dare? We would love to help you!

Did you know that ...
always keep going until you drop is a hallmark of perfectionism? Unhealthy perfectionism causes stress and makes you sick and can even lead to burnout. So be sure to see if perfectionism is an issue with you.
