Dismissal is in the top 10 most drastic events a person can experience. How can you deal with this situation in the best way possible? We give you 8 tips:
1. Skip the news for once
It is not encouraging to learn daily on radio, TV and in newspapers that there are so many more unemployed. This is part of reality, ok, but I also notice that people are finding new, fun jobs every day, and that never gets in the press.
2. Choose structure in your life
Those who have no reason to get up in the morning feel they are becoming passive. Keep the regularity of getting up, eating, and sleeping. Build structure into the rest of your day as well. Decide in advance how many hours you want to spend looking for work, and schedule this. Alternate this with relaxing, fun activities.
3. Be gentle with yourself
You can ask yourself "why me?" for a very long time. This takes a lot of energy. You did not choose this situation yourself. Don't blame yourself and try to live in the "now.
4. Do fun things
The important thing is to "stay among people. If your job goes away, you will have fewer contacts anyway. Seek the company of others. If you feel the need, talk about how you feel and what is on your mind. And get lots of exercise, preferably outdoors! A daily half-hour walk does wonders...!
5. Take time
Take time to process your layoff and think about how you see your future, about what you really want. Don't take the first, best job too quickly.
6. See the positives
You now have time to do things you never had time for otherwise: go to the market, take a class, pick up the kids from school, repaint the living room, store....
7. Count your blessings
Every day before going to bed, write down 3 things that made you feel good that day: focus on your successes, achievements, results, pride moments, happy moments, pleasure moments, happiness moments, enjoyment moments, laughter moments, personal victories (the smaller the better!)
8. Explore
Start learning something new, e.g. a new (computer) language, a new dance, a new sport, a new creative work form (painting, modeling, sculpting, theater), etc.
What about you?
-Does layoff hang in the air or have you been laid off recently?
-Or do you know someone in this situation?
You don't have to go through this alone!
Did you know that you yourself can propose an outplacement program to your employer? And that you can also use your career vouchers during your notice period?
