Your job, a golden cage?

The golden cage, what is that?

A nice salary, complemented by cell phone, car, career opportunities, nice colleagues... Yet for some, that is not (anymore) enough. Maybe your job's "expiration date" has passed? Many dream of other work. Does the security of a fixed salary outweigh more freedom? However, they see no way to escape from 'the golden cage' or do not dare to take the step...

What is the consequence?

The result is that they become more and more alienated from themselves, they fall into a negative spiral, which affects their self-esteem, their health, their relationships... They ask themselves the question 'Is this it now? Surely more must be possible?' At the same time, they feel that they should not complain... Especially as an HSP you suffer even more from this, because you cannot do work just to earn money, it must have 'meaning'....

Mental absenteeism and possibly bore-out or burn-out are often the result. If doctors, psychologists, therapists are to be believed, many of the problems people face are work-related.

What is the solution?

We recommend creating your career passport.
This involves mapping out what is important to you, what you are good at and enjoy doing, and what you would like to develop. This allows you to take stock of your current situation.

What are the possibilities? There are several possible outcomes:

  • you look at your current job differently and/or can fill your job in a slightly different way and/or take new training: you stay in the same company in the same job
  • you see that your company's values do fit with yours, but that the position no longer fits: you're going to do something else internally
  • you see that the function is correct, but the values are not: you are going to do something similar externally
  • you see that both the values and your job are really not right anymore and you are ready for a real career switch: maybe you are considering becoming a freelancer or starting your own business, to start with maybe in a side job alongside your current job: you are going to do something externally (completely) different.

We promote "the path of gradualism" and will not encourage impulsive steps.

Choosing for yourself?

Life is short, and you are important! You decide what your life looks like! It is your life, and no one else's. Often we see people being very loyal to their employer. And eliminate themselves, and with that, their dreams and desires. This makes them make themselves too small... We invite you to be loyal to yourself. To say yes to what you really want, to say no to what you don't want (anymore)....

Afraid of the uncertainty?

Anything that is familiar gives confidence. It's perfectly normal to be inclined to hold onto it. Often, however, we hear clients say afterwards: if only I had done it much sooner! Change, however, can be learned.
Uncertainty about what the future holds is much less serious than being unhappy in your job. What do you really have to lose? You may have to make do with less (for a while), but you can get creative about that too. There are so many possibilities! We are happy to think with you!
